We never need an excuse to go to Durango, but when a friend told us the the Durango Silverton railway would be featuring The Polar Express, we knew we HAD to go. Even better was that another friend, Mandy, decided she would bring her family out to Durango the same weekend we were going!!! Kind of an aside - the friends I refer to I "met" on an online pregnancy forum while I was pregnant with Rianna. Several of us still keep in touch regularly, so I was absolutely thrilled to finally be able to meet one of my fellow "September Mommies" in person. Mandy and her family arrived in Albuquerque on Friday. After a quick lunch at Chik Fil A, we headed out to Durango!!! We both stayed at the Doubletree in Durango, right on the Animas River. After a long drive, Rianna was ready to run off some energy, so Mandy and her husband brought their son Noah to our room to play with Rianna. After quite a bit of running and jumping, they settled down in a chair to read.

The next day, we had planned to go sledding or tubing, but the hills weren't open yet. So, we headed down to Vallecito Lake, our future home, and we found plenty of snow there!

After playing in the snow for awhile, we headed back to the hotel for some hot soup and a nap in preparation for our ride on The Polar Express!!!

Here's Rianna all decked out in her jammies (and her ever-present boots)!

So, last week, my mom and I decide to meet at the mall so Rianna could see Santa. Now, Rianna does not like taking pics - the last time we took her for professional pics, she absolutely refused to sit still and take any - but we decided to try it all the same. When my mom called me and told me she refused to wear the Christmas outfit I'd bought for her (because the shirt is a turtleneck and she hated it - can you say "diva?") I figured it would be a bust, but we figured we could always just finish up some shopping while we were at the mall. Thankfully, there was only one person in line ahead of us - a little girl of about 6. Rianna watched her sit on Santa's lap and smile while they took pictures. When our turn came, I carried her over to Santa and sat her on his lap fully expecting hyterics to follow. Surprisingly, there were none! She looked up at Santa and then back at me and then, fully cooperating, she actually smiled when the photographer asked her to! I was so proud of her!

I love the Christmas season! I cannot wait to decorate every year! We decorated outside today and managed to do so without any drama or arguments! We're getting good at this!

Denny's taking a guitar class in school and he loves it! He practices all the time and he's getting pretty good! He had his first guitar concert at school and did so well!!!!

So, I jumped on the bandwagon and created a blog.....finally. I'm not saying I'll be the best at keeping up with it, but I'm going to try!!!
